  • Icelandic Pelts

The pelt of the Icelandic sheep is beautiful, soft and lustrous,  in a delightful range of colors and patterns. An Icelandic pelt feels much like that of a luxurious fur.  The relatively low number of follicles per square millimeter, a count of 12 rather than the 53-87 of the Merino sheep, for example, makes the pelt soft and flexible.  The Icelandic pelts have many wonderful uses.  Try them as chair covers, bed throws, decorative rugs,  floor pads for infants, snuggly rugs for childrens' rooms,  seat covers for car/truck in winter, as well as many craft applications.

  • Handwoven Icelandic Wool Rugs

Our handwoven Icelandic wool rugs are amazingly soft and cushy underfoot.  We have our spring shearing wool made into rug yarn (our Icelandic wool roving wrapped around a jute core) and then use this rug yarn supplies the material for our handwoven rugs.  Beautiful color variations are all natural.  No dyes used.  These are 100% Icelandic wool rugs.  You won't believe how wonderfully soft these rugs are underfoot.  We recommend our rugs be used in low traffic areas.  They are truly one of a kind pieces of art!
  • Grass-fed Pure Icelandic Lamb

    lamb illustration

Though famous throughout the world for wool production, the Icelandic breed is predominately grown for meat in Iceland. Since the cool and wet climate precludes the production of most grains in Iceland, the breed has been selected to bring the meat lambs to slaughter weight off of the summer and fall pastures.

The Icelandic breed is considered a mountain breed, and historically mountain breeds have been milder in flavor, and leaner than the lowland breeds. The meat is indeed very tender with a mild flavor, and is generally described as gourmet meat. With the leaner, European style carcass, and the mild flavor, Icelandic lamb can appeal to the palate of even those consumers who avow they "just don't like lamb."
"Free-range, grass-fed Icelandic lamb is exceptionally fine grained and mild tasting; it is prized by chefs..."   Saveur Magazine, Sept. 5, 2009

  • Icelandic Wool Fleeces

    lamb illustration

We have just finished our fall shearing.  As usual, the fleeces are gorgeous, long and with beautiful lustre.  We managed to get some skirted to enter at The Vermont Sheep and Wool festival.  Kind Horn Farm came away with the BLUE RIBBON for Natural Color- Longwool category!   I will be adding these fleeces to the website as I get them skirted.  Please do email or call if you are looking for a special fleece.   I always have lots of gorgeous fleeces, lamb and adult, on hand.

Read this testimonial I received recently from a very happy raw fleece customer:

"I received the fleeces yesterday, and I skipped out of the post office with them.  I am just over the moon! they are the prettiest things that I have ever seen!
Right away, I took samples out of each bag, and washed them. They are so clean, and with not much lanolin, so one soak was enough. I then prepared them and spun them up in different ways.  I am in love!  I hope that I can do these beauties justice.....
And, oh!  I HAVE to have that dark/brown black fleece that you sent me a sample of.  Is it available still? Iif so, I would love to purchase it.  It is incredibly beautiful!
The colors of all of these samples are just so exquisite to look at.  Thank you for raising such beautiful animals with lustrous fleeces.
I am so very happy that I found Kind Horn Farm......"

  • Icelandic Wool Roving

Roving is a continuous stream of carded parallel fibers.  Many handspinners prefer this form for spinning or other fiber arts.  We choose some of our finer fleeces to be made into roving to ensure that handspinners have a very high quality product to work with.

WE NOW HAVE LAMBSWOOL ROVINGS MADE FROM OUR CERTIFIED ORGANIC FIBER.  PROCESSING IS DONE WITH ALL NATURAL, EARTH FRIENDLY PRODUCTS.
